In southwest Houston, there was damage to an apartment complex on Mullins Street near Bissonnet. A small tornado ripped down an awning and damaged several vehicles. Some of the apartments also sustained roof damage, forcing residents to put out buckets to collect the dripping water.

So what exactly happened? Meteorologist Nikki Hathaway is with the National Weather Service in League City:

"So you had a line of showers and thunderstorms," explained Hathaway. "One of the little cells, or storms specifically started to rotate. And within that rotation was where the tornado was produced."

Storm damage wasn't just contained to Houston. Photos on social media showed cars overturned in east Harris County. The strong winds also toppled shipping containers in La Porte.
