They call it “Resist Trump Tuesday.”

Protesters have gathered outside Sen. Cornyn’s Houston office for the past 10 Tuesdays.

About two dozen protesters stood on the sidewalk outside of Sen. John Cornyn’s office at 5300 Memorial Dr., holding up American flags and signs with Trump-critical messages and calls for healthcare for all.

“I think the most important thing to be done today is to call for an independent and open, transparent set of hearings into both his ties, his campaign’s ties, with Russia and the sources of his income,” the weekly protest’s organizer, Brent Sullivan, said.

A lot of the protesters are retirees but some are younger – like Emma Connolly, a sociology senior at the University of Houston.

It was her first time at the protest and she said she’s getting more involved.

“I believe that our country is at a really tough situation right now,” she said. “And I feel like we have a lot of populations that are really scared of the things that are happening.”

Sen. Cornyn is currently in Washington, but the protesters went up in small groups to speak with his staff.

They said a staff member took notes and promised to pass on the comments to the senator.

We reached out to Cornyn’s office but did not receive an official comment before deadline.

Update March 29:

A spokeswoman for Cornyn provided the following statement:

“Sen. Cornyn values the opinions of each of his almost 28 million constituents and appreciates them making their voice heard.”

She also said Cornyn’s staff met with everyone who wanted to meet.
