The funeral is set for a Houston-area police officer killed after crashing his motorcycle while pursuing two shoplifting suspects in a car.
The Houston Chronicle reports the funeral for Bellaire officer Anthony Zarate is set for Monday at Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston.
The 52-year-old was a seven-year veteran of the police department for Bellaire, which is an enclave of Houston.
On July 13, Zarate was chasing men suspected of stealing from a Target store when he lost control and crashed into a lawn maintenance trailer parked on a street.
The day after the crash, a 27-year-old man turned himself in to police, admitting he was driving the vehicle that led police on the chase. The man is charged with murder in Zarate’s death.
