More female veterans call Texas home than any other state in the country, according to 2015 figures from the Department of Veterans Affairs. With six VA hospitals stationed here, state programs in place and a handful of nonprofits dedicated to serving female veterans, those veterans know there are resources to help them — in mind and body — as they transition back to the civilian world.

One such group in Houston offers women veterans a safe space to receive counseling and learn from one another’s experiences.
