HISD Board Suspends Auditor Investigating Bond Shortfall

Trustees for the Houston Independent School District have suspended the chief executive auditor Richard Patton, just months after he questioned the district’s handling of the $200 million shortfall for new school construction.

Trustees for the Houston Independent School District have suspended the chief executive auditor Richard Patton, just months after he questioned the district’s handling of the $200 million shortfall for new school construction.

HISD school board president Manuel Rodriguez said he can’t comment about the suspension or ongoing investigation into the auditor, but he says they hope to resolve it quickly.

“The audit committee met this morning and they were to discuss some options on next steps,” Rodriguez said.

With the ongoing investigation, the board has not named an interim chief auditor. The position reports directly to HISD trustees, not the district’s administration.
