As part of the ongoing widening project, crews will be working this weekend on the inbound lanes of the 290 bridge over West 34th Street. Traffic will be transitioned to new pavement, and TxDOT's Karen Othon says they have to do a lot of preparations to make that happen.

"They have to lay down asphalt as you get onto the new pavement and as you get off the new pavement back on to the existing pavement,” says Othon. “So there are these asphalt transitions that need to be done."

At some point during the work they'll have to shut down the inbound lanes at Antoine and divert everyone to the frontage road. Othon recommends drivers use a detour.

"A good alternate route is to take Hempstead Road,” adds Othon. “Before you get caught into any of the traffic backups, you can get get off the freeway and head over to Hempstead Road and take it all the way in. "

Othon says they expect to complete the work by 5:00 a.m. Monday. The entire 290 widening project is expected to be finished by the end of 2017.
