LIVINGSTON, Texas (AP) — A 58-year-old Texas prisoner is facing execution this week for a Houston-area shooting rampage that left five people dead more than 18 years ago.

Coy Wesbrook‘s lethal injection Wednesday evening would be the fourth this year in Texas, which carries out capital punishment more than any other state. It would be the eighth execution nationally.

Wesbrook’s ex-wife was among the victims in November 1997 when he said he “lost it’ at a party at her apartment outside Houston as she and others began ridiculing him.

Wesbrook’s attorney says appeals to the courts have been exhausted and no last-ditch efforts to save him are expected.
