Sysco Cutting Jobs In Houston And Worldwide

Houston-based Sysco Corporation is cutting about two percent of its worldwide workforce. Many of those job cuts will be here in Houston.

As part of its three-year operating plan, the food distribution company says it’s cutting 1,200 jobs. About 480 of those jobs are in Houston.

The job cuts will happen over the next 15 months, and the company says they’ll be administrative, non-customer-facing positions.

The move comes as the company announced just last week that it will be buying London-based Brakes Group, the biggest food distribution company in the United Kingdom.

Sysco has about 3,300 employees in the Houston area, and about 52,000 worldwide. It distributes food and other supplies to restaurants, hospitals and cafeterias.
