Drivers across Greater Houston already know the 610 Loop in the Galleria area is one of the most congested highways in the region. Now we know where it ranks in terms of congestion across the country: #22.

That's according to the American Highway Users Alliance. The group recently published a report listing the top 50 bottlenecks in the U.S.

You only have to go three spots down to find the next local trouble spot: U.S. 59 from Hazard Street to Buffalo Speedway.

The final Houston bottleneck on the list is at #34. It's on 290 between 610 and Mangum Road.

The group estimates that drivers who slog through the bottlenecks waste about 1.5 million gallons of fuel each year. And if time truly is money, the alliance estimates $78 million dollars worth of time is lost annually sitting in traffic.

And some of those losses will come during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. AAA predicts about 3.7 million Texans will travel during the Thanksgiving holiday. That's a 1.4 percent increase over last year, and it's the most travelers since the start of the Great Recession.
