The work is all part of the ongoing U.S. 290 widening project.  This weekend, crews will open the new bridge that will allow drivers traveling north on the 610 Loop to pass through the U.S. 290 interchange. The bridge will take them to the 610 Loop eastbound.

TxDOT’s Karen Othon says there’s going to be a lot of activity starting Friday night.

“So this weekend what the contractor needs to do is go in and close alternating lanes to be able to do their final striping, put up some barriers, and then shift traffic over to the new lanes,” says Othon.

There will be alternating lane closures on northbound 610 between I-10 and 290. During part of that work, the 610 exit to 290 westbound will be totally closed. Othon says you can use I-10 as a detour.

“From 9:00 p.m. Friday night, until noon on Sunday, is when we’ll have these alternating closures,” says Othon. “So I would expect delays if you are going to go that route.”

Othon says they’re also planning another lane shift at 610 and 290 sometime after the first of the year. TxDOT expects to complete the 290 widening project in 2017.
