“This is a global hub, and certainly based on the global hub named for the city that we call home," said P’nina Topham, the university’s project coordinator for the 2016 debate. "The University of Houston is proud of its educational offering. We definitely have areas of advancement, a diverse student body that really truly mirrors Houston’s rich demographic makeup and undisputed economic impact.”

NBC News and Telemundo visited the campus last week before announcing their decision.

“Things that are going to be said on a stage on University of Houston’s campus may directly impact our future, and so for that reason we’re just so excited to have been selected to host this important conversation," Topham said. "And as of today, at least, this is the last known GOP debate before the Super Tuesday election.”
