Pearland West Wins Opening Game In Little League World Series

The team won the game one-to-nothing over Wilshire-Riverside, the Northwest Champions from Oregon. Pitcher Jared Taddlock took control of the mound, throwing a total of eight strikeouts. He told ESPN after the game that he couldn’t have done it without the support of his teammates, especially third baseman Caleb Low.

“I had my defense help me out,” Taddlock says. “Caleb, he helped me out too with some amazing plays, and we just did great as a team.”

Pearland West advanced to the World Series after winning the Southwest Regional Tournament earlier this month. It’s the second year in a row a Pearland team has made it to the series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Pitcher Issac Garcia hit the game’s only home run at the top of the fourth inning. He later took the mound and closed out the game.

“I just looked to put the bat on the ball, and it went out of the yard and I was impressed, and I felt happy, and whenever I was pitching, defense made plays for us,” Garcia says.

Pearland will go on to play the winner of a game between the Great Lakes and West division champions on Saturday.

The Little League World Series runs through August 30.
