Annise Parker has a lot to juggle in her role as mayor of Houston: There’s management of the city, ensuring that all of its laws are properly enforced. There are ceremonial duties, as the city’s official representative at special events, ribbon cuttings, and meetings with officials and dignitaries. There are appointments to make; budgeting to maintain.

And unlike other big cities, here in Houston, the Mayor is not only an executive officer, but serves a legislative role as well, presiding over City Council with voting privileges.

And another role the mayor has taken on as of late – occasionally coming on Houston Matters to answer your questions. On this edition: from the equal rights ordinance heading to the November ballot, to the city’s financial challenges, to – of course – potholes and streets — Mayor Annise Parker will field your questions at 713-440-8870, talk@houstonmatters.org or @HoustonMatters.

Plus: our panel of non-experts picks apart The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of this week’s news.
