The story dominating attention in Major League Baseball this past week has been the revelation that some unnamed members of the St. Louis Cardinals’ front office staff are under federal investigation for allegedly hacking into an internal network of the Houston Astros.

The system — dubbed “Ground Control” — contained proprietary statistics, analysis, scouting reports, and trade discussions. There’s been a lot of supposition and confusion about what exactly happened, and what may have motivated the action.
