Enemy Within Never Did Without Book CoverThroughout the summer months, Houston Matters is dedicating time each week to books about Greater Houston, set in Greater Houston or written or edited by Houstonians.

Our summer reading series starts today with Jeffrey Littlejohn, an associate professor of history and director of the graduate program at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. He's the co-editor of The Enemy Within Never Did Without – a book recalling the experience of German and Japanese POWs at Camp Huntsville during World War II.

Michael Hagerty is the senior producer for Houston Matters. He's spent more than 20 years in public radio and television and dabbled in minor league baseball, spending four seasons as the public address announcer for the Reno Aces, the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
