Neighborhood, USA Wants Passion For Your Community To Turn Into Action

Community organizations from around the country are in Houston for the annual Neighborhoods-USA Conference.

HOAs exist to protect residents and their property, and that’s been the mission of Neighborhoods, USA. For the past 40 years, the national nonprofit has been committed to building and strengthening neighborhood organizations.

Tige Watts is president of Neighborhoods, USA. He says becoming involved is the key.

“We’ve seen that in the past, when neighbors get involved in their communities, they include other people, they share the responsibilities and the decision making process with their fellow neighbors, that it makes for a safer community. It makes for a more prosperous neighborhood, and it makes for a better future all the way around,” Watts says.

Thursday’s keynote speech featured Angela Blanchard

The theme of the conference is “Passion into Action.”

Angela Blanchard is president and CEO of Neighborhood Centers Inc. here in Houston. She delivered the keynote address and challenged those at the conference to be inquisitive.

When you look at your neighborhoods and communities, I say first of all, pay attention to who’s there,” Blanchard says. “Ask the new question: What’s working here? How can we resource more of that? How to we amplify what makes us strong?”

The conference continues through tomorrow at the Hyatt Regency downtown.
