Officials said hundreds of men chatted through social media sites for three days last week. Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson says a location was outfitted with surveillance cameras. That’s where officials nabbed 12 of the men who thought they were meeting an underage girl.

“Some of the defendants arrived at the undercover location, one showed up with a gun, another with ecstasy,” Anderson says.

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Lt. Gary Spurger says predators come from all backgrounds.

“They cover every aspect of life, every walk of life,” Spurger says. “You can’t look at somebody and say ‘He’s a predator,’ cause you just don’t know.”

DA Anderson says the operation opened her eyes as a parent. She shared a conversation she had with her children.

“I don’t think they got the concept that who they are talking to, who they chatting with. (It) could be a 60 year old man, could be a 40 year old man, who is portraying themselves as a 16 year old or a 17 year old,” Anderson says.

The men face charges of online solicitation of a minor.
