TxDot – U.S. 290

Update as of Friday evening from TxDOT:

Due to the forecasted weather for this weekend, the scheduled closure of US 290 eastbound mainlanes from Tidwell to W. 43rd from February 20-23 has been cancelled and will be rescheduled. The work for this closure involved striping and pavement marking operations, which cannot be properly installed in wet conditions.

Drivers face major delays on U.S. 290 this weekend as two sections of the freeway close for construction. The shutdowns are part of the ongoing 290 reconstruction project.

TxDOT’s Karen Othon says they’re shutting down the freeway in both directions at the 610 West Loop so crews can do demolition work.

“The contractor is going to be working on demolishing that entire bridge structure because it spans over the inbound and outbound main lanes there on 290,” says Othon.

TxDOT is posting detour signs and police will also be on hand to monitor traffic on the feeder roads, but Othon is recommending drivers use Hempstead Road as an alternate.

Those closures start at 9:00 Friday night and work is expected to be finished by 5:00 Monday morning.
