U.S. 290 will be closed in both directions at the 610 Loop. TxDOT’s Karen Othon says they have to close the mainlanes so crews can finish tearing down the old HOV lane.

“They do try to schedule the majority of their work on the weeknights so they don’t have to impact traffic on the weekend. But sometimes there’s just the complexity of the project, such as removing the steel structure, requires every bit of a weekend time frame.”

And this isn’t the end of it. Othon says in the months to come,  drivers will see lots more construction in both directions.

“You’ll see some of the contractors on the segment working on the frontage roads and some of them working on the mainlanes, but the important thing to notice is that work is continuing at a 24/7 schedule.”

The freeway is expected to reopen by 5:00 Monday morning. The entire project should be finished by the end of 2017.
