Houston-based fine art and documentary photographer Shelley Calton has spent the last few years taking pictures of women with their guns.
Concealed is a photo series featuring about 80 Texas women and the handguns they use for personal protection. Every picture in the series tells a different woman’s story, from the business woman leaning on her car holding her gun, to the woman in a pink fluffy animal print bathrobe applying makeup with a handgun beside her on the sink.
While doing the project Shelley even took a concealed handgun license class to understand her subjects even more.
Calton tells Maggie Martin why she embarked on this project.
