Tom Herman was met with a roar of applause as he greeted the crowd. He’s the thirteenth head coach in Cougar football history, and he’s got some experience under his belt. Before this, Herman was the offensive coordinator for Ohio State. He says he’s determined to earn the trust of the UH football team and help them succeed.

“The city of Houston needs a hometown college football team to be proud of,” Herman said.

UH Athletic Director Mack Rhoades says Herman was the best candidate for the job.

“The process and the plan and the vision that he has for this program was tremendous,” Rhoades said.

UH Chancellor Renu Khator also welcomed Herman. She says athletics is key to the university’s success, and Herman’s leadership will give UH a competitive edge.

“When you are a tier one university, you have your dreams and hopes and expectations in every single field,” Khator said. “Athletics is very important.”

Herman has at least one more game with Ohio State before he joins UH in 2015.
