Starting tonight at 9:00, TxDOT is closing the U.S. 290 mainlanes at the 610 Loop, and that’s both eastbound and westbound.

TxDOT’s Karen Othon says they’re having to shut down the whole freeway so crews can do demolition work.

“It’s a combination of steel and concrete bridge structure, which is the old HOV T-ramp at Dacoma that sits in the middle of the freeway. So we’ll be taking that down,” says Othon.

Othon says there are several alternate routes and that includes Hempstead Road.

“We’re going to utilize our dynamic message board signs on the freeway, so we will give motorists a heads-up that the freeway is closed ahead. And we do have some portable message boards as well,” says Othon.

The other closure this weekend is on the I-10 East Freeway. Westbound lanes will be closed at U.S. 59 so crews can continue work at the Meadow Street Bridge.

Both roadways are expected to reopen by 5:00 Monday morning.
