Mayor Annise Parker will deliver the keynote address at a symposium hosted by the Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance (WBEA) on Tuesday in Southwest Houston. Parker will speak on equal opportunities for women in doing business with the city government.

“There’s almost $1 billion in contract opportunity out there for small businesses,” says Shirley Brooks, director of the WBEA’s Women’s Business Center, “and we’re wanting to increase the amount of opportunity for women to go after some of those contracts. So, the Mayor is going to talk about that.”

The day-long event, called “For the Win,” will also include sessions on developing proposals, gaining access to capital, and negotiation techniques.
