Tuesday’s University of Houston Track and Field press conference

Olympic gold medalist and world renowned athlete Carl Lewis is now a full-time member of the University of Houston track and field coaching staff. Last year, he was a volunteer coach.

Lewis will coach sprints and jumps as an assistant to head coach Leroy Burrell.

“When I competed here, when Coach Burrell competed here — where Houston went, the United States went. And that’s something that I’m really excited about. We’re going to go to the Olympics and take kids everywhere, making this the best program in the world,” Lewis said.

Carl Lewis is a six-time all-American, winning nine conference championships while at UH. Lewis competed for the United States in four Olympic Games, winning 10 Olympic medals. Out of that ten, he won nine gold medals, and a world record for speed.
