The TEA also supports the State Board of Education in the development of statewide curriculum, and the process of adopting instructional materials, like textbooks.

On this edition of Houston Matters, we talk with Commissioner Williams about his role with the TEA, and how it supports the State Board of Education. We also welcome any questions you may have about public education across Texas.

Also: A study shows around 80 percent of Houston commuters are driving by themselves. The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) is encouraging drivers to try alternative methods of getting to and from work during their “August Commute Solutions Month.” We talk with Houston Public Media transportation reporter Gail Delaughter about our commuting habits, and which highways are the most congested. We also welcome your thoughts about what it might take to encourage you to change your commuting habits – either where you drive, or what might cause you to carpool, or switch to another mode of transportation.

Plus: Houston Matters’ Michael Hagerty examines Asian migration in Greater Houston.
