Starting next year, Texas drivers will no longer have to display an inspection sticker on their windshield. As it stands right now drivers get separate stickers for inspection and registration, but all that changes in March 2015 when the state combines all information on one sticker.
Adam Shaivitz with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles explains how it works.
“What you will do is obtain and pass a vehicle inspection first, and you’ll need to do that no more than 90 days before your registration expires. Then when you register we’ll electronically verify that you passed the inspection and you’ll get that sticker for both.”
And Shaivitz says under that new system, both registration and inspection will have the same expiration date.
“Once your registration and inspection expiration dates are synced up, you’ll no longer have to worry about keeping track of two different dates. Another benefit is this will help prevent inspection sticker fraud and theft.”
A bill was passed in the last legislative session calling for the change, and officials expect the state will save over $2 million by streamlining the system.
