Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability in the U.S, with one in every 68 children having the disorder. In 2012, Texas health officials reported almost 90-thousand children in the state have autism, and they estimate another 28-thousand Texas children will have it by 2017.

On today’s Houston Matters, we’ll talk with a local mom about the challenges of having a child with autism. And we’ll discuss what signs parents should look for, how autism is treated and the latest research here in Houston.
