More than 2 million smart meters are installed on local homes. The University of Houston is working with some of the region’s top electricity providers to find how data from those smart meters can help improve service on the grid. Among the goals of the joint venture, known as the Electric Power Analytics Consortium, will be improving prediction of storm-related power outages.

Joining Andrew Schneider on this installment of the Bauer Business Focus is Badri Roysam, chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Houston’s Cullen College of Engineering.
