In a five-to-four split, the justices struck down a limit on the aggregate contributions donors can make in a given election cycle. That cap was set at just over $123,000 for 2013 and 2014. The maximum included a limit of roughly $49,000 to all candidates, as well as one on donations to parties and PACS of nearly $75,000.

“One of the things that this aggregate cap did was it made people focus on specific races. But now that these caps are gone, you can have people influencing races all over the country, including in Texas.”
The High Court kept in place limits on individual contributions to specific candidates for Congress or president. Those limits now stand at $2,600 per election.
