Edward Snowden Addresses SXSW Interactive Crowd By Video

NSA leaker Edward Snowden spoke this morning to the South by Southwest Interactive festival in Austin.

NSA leaker Edward Snowden spoke this morning to the South by Southwest Interactive festival in Austin. He participated remotely in a video link-up from Moscow where he’s living in temporary asylum. Snowden is talking about how the NSA’s surveillance has affected the technology community, and how technology can also protect people from similar types of mass surveillance.

“SXSW and the technology community — the people who are in the room at Austin right now — they’re the folks who can really fix things, who can enforce our rights through technical standards, even when Congress hasn’t yet gotten to the point of creating legislation to protect our rights in the same manner.”

Snowden faces felony charges in the U.S. after revealing the agency’s mass surveillance program by leaking thousands of classified documents.
