Later this week, Houston will host the Creating Change 2014 Conference. It’s the largest national gathering of activists, organizers and leaders in the LGBT movement. In advance of the conference, on this edition of Houston Matters, we will explore developments in city and statewide policies impacting the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community, including non-discrimination, same sex marriage, and adoption. We’ll welcome your questions for Daniel Williams, Legislative Specialist for Equality Texas, and Maverick Welsh, President of the Houston GLBT Political Caucus.

Then, we turn our attention to the “T” in LGBT, and talk with Lou Weaver. He’s co-chair of the Creating Change Conference, and a past president of the Transgender Foundation of America, based here in Houston. We discuss some unique challenges facing the transgender community.

Also this hour: we’ll welcome your children’s health questions for pediatrician Dr. Mfon Ekong. She’s an assistant professor of pediatrics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. We’ll welcome just about any question you may have about your child’s health and well-being. Think of it as a chance to talk to your family doctor…without the co-pay.

Plus: CultureMap Houston sports columnist MK Bower joins us, as he does most Mondays, to discuss the latest in Houston sports.
