From his first job in a small town in Pennsylvania, to his eventual longtime home here in Houston, our morning news anchor has been a talk show host, a disc jockey, and of course, a news reporter.

He’s been here in Houston since 1991 and came to Houston Public Radio for the first time in 1998. Today is his last day on air – he’s unplugging his microphone. Before he goes, we cajoled him to join Houston Matters in the studio to talk about his career, and the changes he’s seen in the media landscape here in Houston and elsewhere.

Michael Hagerty is the senior producer for Houston Matters. He's spent more than 20 years in public radio and television and dabbled in minor league baseball, spending four seasons as the public address announcer for the Reno Aces, the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
