More than 30 years ago, Houston's Black Heritage Society, after being approached by Martin Luther King, Sr., wanted to find a way to memorialize Martin Luther King, Jr. in the city. While they wanted a statue, they ended up settling for a live oak tree on MLK Boulevard. That set in motion a series of events that looks like it’ll result in a statue being erected at long last.
