Itâs elaborate, long-anticipated and years in the making. Itâs the Grand Parkway: the loop outside the loop outside the loop which, once completed will be more than 180 miles long, and cross seven different counties in its path around Houston. Proponents say the Grand Parkway will cut down commute time for many drivers traveling in from the outskirts of Greater Houston. Opponents worry it will encourage additional sprawl.
Today on Houston Matters, with another portion of the Grand Parkway expected to open up soon, weâll talk about the project, and consider its impact on communities that surround it.Weâll welcome your questions for the President of the Grand Parkway Association and the head of Houston Tomorrow.
Also: METROâs Red Line will open for service next week. The second light-rail line will add more than five miles to the existing Main Street Line, starting at UH-Downtown and running through Houstonâs historic Northside. KUHF Transportation Reporter Gail Delaughter recently took a tour of the new rail line. Sheâll join us to talk about the expansion and its impact on commuters and surrounding communities.
Plus: Christopher Bullock once wrote, âTis impossible to be sure of any thing but Death and Taxes.â Weâll welcome your questions about the latter, and what tax-related decisions you may want to make before the end of the calendar year.
