On Monday a federal judge struck down a portion of new abortion restrictions passed by the Texas legislature back in July. The provisions were to take effect today.

District Judge Lee Yeakel says the provision requiring a doctor to obtain hospital admitting privileges within 30 miles of a clinic where they perform abortions violates doctors’ rights to do what’s best for their patients and creates an unreasonable restriction for women seeking access to clinics.
