On Monday a federal judge struck down a portion of new abortion restrictions passed by the Texas legislature back in July. The provisions were to take effect today.
District Judge Lee Yeakel says the provision requiring a doctor to obtain hospital admitting privileges within 30 miles of a clinic where they perform abortions violates doctors' rights to do what's best for their patients and creates an unreasonable restriction for women seeking access to clinics.
But now the State of Texas is seeking an emergency stay of that ruling.
To tell us more, to explain what's still in effect, and what happens next, we hear from KUHF health and science reporter Carrie Feibel.
