On this edition of Houston Matters, we welcome your questions for Houston Mayor Annise Parker. Last Monday, Houston Matters profiled all nine of the candidates on the ballot for mayor of Houston. Just two â incumbent Mayor Parker and challenger Ben Hall – have polled above single digits, so over the next two Mondays, we are giving you a chance to speak with those two directly.
Annise Parker is seeking a third and final term in office as mayor. In a column endorsing the former city councilwoman and city controller, the Houston Chronicle both praised and criticized her leadership. On the plus side: the paper cited her role in bring Houston and Harris County officials together, and lauded her work establishing public-private partnerships, and a dedicated âpay as you goâ fund to address city streets and other infrastructure. But the paper was also critical of her style, saying she âacts more like a policy wonk than a well-practiced politician,â that she âneeds to connectâ with the public better.
