Former UH Basketball Coach Guy V. Lewis Elected To Hall Of Fame

An announcement is expected Monday that former University of Houston basketball coach Guy V. Lewis has been elected to the college Basketball Hall of Fame.

UH football and basketball play-by-play announcer Tom Franklin says it’s “long overdue justice, but so rewarding that it happened, and it happened now while he’s still alive and can appreciate (it). Franklin admires what the “community has done for him to try and get him this honor.”

Coach Lewis won 592 games and made 14 NCAA tournament appearances, including five trips to the Final Four.  He coached the Cougars in the years that featured Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler.

An official announcement is expected Monday at the Final Four in Atlanta.
