The new conference titled Medical World Americas will combine educational conferences with a medical technology and equipment expo.

Greg Ortale is president of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau and says they spent three years recruiting
organizers of the German tradeshow MEDICA to open a show in Houston.

“They have shows in Brazil, Singapore, India and a number of other locations, but did not have one in the United States.”

Ortale says the Texas Medical Center was a major draw for the organizers.

The German conference held in Dusseldorf brings in 130,000 participants annually from around the world. The Houston event is only expected to host about 2,000 registrants in its first year.

“First year that we are doing it will be cardiology, oncology and emergency care. With the resources, educational power and the intellectual power of potential speakers from the Texas Medical Center, we think that in and of itself will be a draw.”

The conference will open in April of 2014.
