The incident happened during the third quarter of the game between the Texans and the Minnesota Vikings Thursday night.

This is Mark Miller, general manager of Reliant Park:

“Our understanding of the incident last night is that approximately 8:10 p.m. last night, a 20 year old male fell off the northeast escalator at Reliant Stadium, while descending from level 5 to level 3. Employees in the area immediately reported the incident to the command post.”

He reserved any comment on claims by witnesses that the man was sliding down the railing of the escalator when he fell. He did say that the bank of escalators where the accident occurred is closed until the investigation is completed.

“We’re always evaluating our safety procedures based on anything that occurs, but there is a code required signage on every escalator.”

Jamey Rootes: “And the staff at every landing level of the escalators.”

Miller was joined by Jamey Rootes, president of the Houston Texans.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this young man. Our organization has been engaged with parks staff and with HPD from the beginning of this investigation. We’ll continue to be actively involved, and support in any way that we can.”
