Weekend Car Show To Benefit Local Veterans

Five hundred different cars will be lining up at Reliant Stadium this weekend to benefit local veterans. Organizers hope their two day auto event will help provide some basic provisions for those who've served our country.

What started out as a small car show in a parking lot in Tomball last year has turned into a two day auto extravaganza at Reliant Stadium this year. Put together by the Houston Construction Industry, organizer Gordon Clunn says it’s going to be quite the procession of automobiles on Saturday.

“We have art cars; we have muscle cars; we have new cars. We have just every type of vehicle.”

The event kicks off tonight with Guitars and Cars. Musicians will provide entertainment and Clunn hopes to raise as much money as possible for Houston veterans. He says their main focus is trying to build a fully operational kitchen for the veteran’s facility in Midtown.

“All in all by this time next year, we’re looking at 500 possibly vets that every day will depend on this kitchen and our hopes is to get the kitchen to where it’s feeding the vets, but not only that, opening up to the public and offering their food to the public for a way to get income to help offset some of the expenses they have there.”

All proceeds will benefit the United States Veterans Initiative and Clunn feels it’s a small price to pay for what these veterans have done.

“We can make a difference in these veteran’s lives by letting them know that we care about them and that we’re willing to do what it takes to get them back on their feet.”
