The Greater Houston jobless rate fell to 6.5% in April. That’s down from 7% in March and 7.8% percent a year ago. The state unemployment rate dropped to 6.9% percent last month, down from 7% in March and 8% in April last year.
Texas added 13,200 jobs over the month of April. It was the second-largest increase in employment after Indiana, according state employment figures just released by the Labor Department.
Eight of the 11 major industries in Texas posted gains in employment, with construction and manufacturing adding the most jobs. Leisure and hospitality saw the biggest job losses, followed by business and professional services and finance.
