Direct Energy has been in Houston for about ten years, but will now house its headquarters here and add 200 permanent jobs
to its Houston office.

Direct Energy President Badar Khan says Houston has good prospects for attracting talent to the company.

“When we look at our business and the markets that we are in, we like Houston. It’s a great place to live and it’s a great place to do business. And from an energy perspective, the markets are competitive and thriving and we’re super happy to be here.”

The company announced the move during a press conference with Houston Mayor Annise Parker.

Parker says the city didn’t have to offer any special incentives to persuade Direct Energy to relocate.

“We do everything we can to promote a strong and positive business climate. We do our part as a city, but the business community here contributes as well. And if you look objectively at what the City of Houston has to offer for businesses, it’s clear that there are some distinct competitive advantages to being in Houston.”

Direct Energy will relocate its headquarters over the next 12 months.

The company will hold a job fair at the Renaissance Hotel on April 18th.
