A  driver who has too much to drink can get his car towed home and a free ride by calling AAA’s Emergency Roadside Service starting at 6pm this evening through 6am Sunday morning.  AAA’s Sarah Schimmer says tell the operator you need a “Tipsy Tow”.

“The tow is up to 10 miles free of charge. Any mileage beyond 10 miles will be the responsibility of the motorist, and it’s best to talk to the provider before the tow.”

Schimmer says there are some situations that won’t get you a “Tipsy Tow”

“If the motorist requests a tow to another drinking establishment, a repair facility, or another facility besides their residence, that is not part of the program.”

Schimmer says a tow to a hotel is allowed if the driver is a guest there. Vehicles that have a mechanical problem, flat tire or have run out of gas will not be towed for free.

Simply put, it’s a ride home with your car if you’ve had too much to drink. Schimmer says this service is available to everyone, not just AAA members.
