HISD is calling the meetings “community conversations”.
The first one takes place at 6:30 this evening at Chavez High School in southeast Houston. Dr. Grier will interact with parents and other members of the community about the strategic direction of the district. He’ll also talk about the new STAR accountability test that’s gradually replacing the TAKS test.
This is HISD’s Pat Trahan.
“The requirements for students to graduate are becoming more complex and more challenging. It means a change in the way students have done their homework in the past and it means a change in the way that parents interact with their children in order to obtain some success.”
Trahan says it’s important that parents and students engage with district leaders.
“What is going on in the classroom will affect the daily lives of our students and their parents and it is now more important than ever for you to meet with district officials, understand the direction of the district, understand the direction of the schools and understand how it’s going to affect what you do in your daily life.”
The unscripted, two-way conversations will include time for questions.
