The wildfires in Grimes, Montgomery and Waller Counties blackened nearly 19,000 acres and destroyed or damaged about a hundred homes and structures.
The Houston Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers Program will be manning the phones to answer any questions for residents affected by the fires.
Attorney Keri Brown co-chairs the LegalLine committee. She says a dozen volunteer attorneys are always available to answer legal questions the first and third Wednesdays of each month.
“We also are going to have a few additional attorneys there available to help with specifically questions relating to disasters and what should you do now if you’ve come home and your house has smoke damage and don’t have a place to live any longer.”
LegalLine will be open today from 5-9 PM at 713-759-1133.
The service has served the Houston area since 1986. Volunteer attorneys will also be available to meet with residents with legal questions related to the wildfires on Saturday, October 1st at Ripley House, at 4410 Navigation. That clinic will run from 9 AM-12.
