Commissioner Eversole Resigns; Emmett To Appoint Vacant Seat

Longtime Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jerry Eversole has resigned after 20 years on the job.

The 67-year-old Eversole turned in his resignation letter to Harris County Judge Ed Emmett this afternoon, ending weeks of speculation and if and when he would step-down.

Eversole is facing a retrial on corruption charges next month. A retrial was declared in his first trial earlier this year.

Once Eversole’s resignation becomes effective October 1st, Emmett will appoint someone to fill the vacant seat until next year’s November election. The interim commissioner will have to run in that election as well if they want to continue in the seat.

Eversole was first elected in 1991 and won re-election for a 6th term last November. He represents North and Northeast Harris County.
