Day Care Fire Update

Four children remain hospitalized with burns suffered in yesterday's fire at a west Houston day care. Three other children died in the blaze. Today, investigators began the process of finding out what happened. Bill Stamps reports.

Jackie's Childcare fireAccording to the owner of Jackie’s Child Care, the fire began in the kitchen. She reportedly told a neighbor she went to the bathroom and when she returned, she saw flames coming from that area.

When it was all over three children were dead and four were hospitalized. This is Houston Fire Department spokesman Patrick Trahan.

“Arson investigators are rounding up information and they want an opportunity to speak with the caregiver. The caregiver was hospitalized yesterday. They made attempts to talk with her, but they would like to have an opportunity to sit down and have a full conversation with her about what occurred yesterday.”

The daycare operator’s brother says his sister carried two children out of the burning home and tried to go back in to rescue more, but was unable to because of the flames and smoke. Those who know her describe her as a compassionate woman who loves working with kids.
