The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research Memorial Hermann is considered one of the nation’s premiere facilities for patients who have suffered traumatic brain injuries. It’s been ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the country’s top five rehabilitation hospitals for the past 21 years.

Giffords is still in serious condition, but her family is expected to transfer her to Houston before the end of the week to start what will likely be an intense rehabilitation.

Former NFL player Kevin Everett of the Buffalo Bills underwent rehabilitation at TIRR after he was paralyzed during a game in 2007. He’s now able to walk again.

TIRR’s brain injury program is one of only six in the nation given the designation of Model System by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research.
