It’s called the Youth Evening Reporting Center.? It’s been running on South Wilcrest near the Southwest freeway since December, but today is the official grand opening. Tom Brooks is the Interim Executive Director of the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department. He says the center provides structure and guidance after school and before bedtime.

“They’re actually picked up when they get out of school and kept at this reporting center with programs, education component, counseling…until they’re returned home at approximately 9PM.”

The center will handle up to 25 males and will be run by Southwest Key Programs which operates 55 other programs in six states.

“We had the opportunity, before we put this facility into place to view others around the country and I feel we’re comparable.”

Brooks says he is very pleased with the way things have been going and hopes to expand the program to other areas of the county.
