Volunteer lawyers will be answering phone calls from 5pm until 9pm during, what the Bar Association calls, a Tax-A-Thon. Houston Bar Association President Barrett Reasoner says in past years the attornies have gotten a wide variety of questions. He says questions like how to work out a payment plan if you owe the IRS money.

“Those sorts of questions, just how you extracate yourself from situations that are problematic and that don’t go away without some affirmative action byt the taxpayer.”

The number to call is 713-759-1133. It’s the Houston Bar Associations main number so it is easily found if you didn’t catch it.

Reasoner says this is really not a service to help fill out a tax form.

“These are attornies and not accountants so they’re not there to fill out people’s tax returns, but they can give you general advise in that area.”

There are enough volunteers, according to Reasoner, that all calls will be answered.

Again it’s 5-to-9 today at 713-759-1133.
